In a champaign conducted by the University of California, 14 million white-collar jobs are vulnerable to being outsourced seaward (Roberts, 2005). These include jobs requiring a high-level of skill including information technology, accounting, architecture, advanced engineering design, news reporting, stock analysis, and medical and legal services (Roberts, 2005). According to another study done by EconEdlink, Americas unemployment rate has increased alarmingly since 2001, after having experienced a period of substantial lows throughout the mid-90s. After that the unemployment rate remained somewhat steady, with a spiked increase between 2003 and 2004 followed by occasional yet not extremely noteworthy decreases. (See Figure 1 & 2 for a visual pic of this phenomenon). How can outsourcing be justified in the face of such figures To make matters worse, many of the persons displaced by outsourcing are those who have spent a great quid of time, money and energy at colleges or other academic institutions trying to acquire specialized skills. When education can no vaster offer toast for an individuals financial future, the value of the investment in training, and in the individual, to promote growth in Americas society, and economy, is diminished (Torrance, 2006). capital of South Carolina HCA Fraud Case - Essay ExampleMy goal is to revive the case to the subject of Business Ethics and derive important lessons on how business should be conducted.Reading thru the case study, we can discern the numerous causal factors of the federal investigation of Columbia/ HCA. From what I can understand, the investigation was brought about by a combination of internal and external factors which is presented belowIt was started in June 1996 by Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin that the Medicare program will go broke by 2001 with the way funds are world spent. Expenditures were increasing exponentially with $160 zillion for the 1994 fiscal year. Thats about $440 million per day. By the year 2003, it is projected that it will mushroom to $380 billion or $1 billion per day according to the congressional Budget Office. As a general observation, any activity that increases or decreases suddenly is subject to the curiosity of other people especially when it involv es large amounts of money. This being the case, it only took a matter of time before it caught the attention of government authorities who have become very keen in finding slipway to eliminate unnecessary expenditures and catching duplicitous transactions. The arguments used by the managers to justify the large increase in Medicare costs was the increase in efficiency, more pricy equipment and better accounting practices. These arguments alone are enough to stir speculations because Medicare expenditures should rise due to the rise in harder-to-treat diseases requiring more expensive medication. Does it make sense and then that there was an increase in acute and chronic disease when the health care service became more efficient Does it mean those doctors in the past misdiagnosed patients and when Columbia/HCA came into the picture, they suddenly became experts in diagnosis (Remember that most of the doctors were still those under the past management)New Legislation Protecting Whi stleblowersWhistleblowers are those that expose the anomalies of their employees, partners, and co-employees. Anomalous activities, in this case, refers to fraudulent acts that cheat the government (and consequently the taxpayers) of their money. It may include tax evasion and false claims. In the past, whistleblowers were exposed to retribution by the entities who they claim is engaged in anomalous activities. They could only expect minimal attention from the authorities and if ever they were given such attention, they could only expect minimal court-ordered assistance so why bother being one Unless you have very deep grievances against the person, being a whistleblower was a risky venture. With the new legislation, more legal protection for the whistleblower was provided. Incentives were also offered such as the 30% of the recovered money going to the whistleblower which was mentioned in the reading. Womens Studies. Gender Violence - Essay ExampleWomen abuse is very popular and it has set about like an order of the day since in some(a) societies even a boy child does not give an elderly woman the deserved take to be equal to the one he would give to a male counterpart. In various societies, a woman is considered as a weaker success who cannot handle some tasks. Could problem nonplus been the society we live in? Or is it our forefathers who initiated this? But then what are we doing to curb this kind of mistreatment? Can we all rise up and say no to gender frenzy? This piece of writing analyses the put under of gender violence. Undeniably, issues of gender violence are on the rise and something ought to be make about it. Some of the court decisions regarding these violence are actually not satisfying and I believe very punitive action will compute this matter to a very large extend. Talking about human rights, this is among the issues that should be addressed. A female chil d or a woman must(prenominal) enjoy her freedom once and for all without even an inch of denial. It is upsetting to hear that even celebrities who should lead these campaigns such as Chris brown are relate in this kind of character. Who is in a good position to solve this abuse? I am persuade that we can all come together and treat all females equally by knowing that they are all human beings who deserve freedom and have rights given to them by their creatures. The following story is one of the sad stories of gender violence which is very rampant in armed services. Amanda Tenorio was a 28-year old divorced engender of two whose husband turned violent to shortly after marriage and later became a victim advocate for Army Community Services at Joint Base Henderson. Be ing a gender violence survivor, she was actually the best person to address this issue particularly after her husbands unvarying thrashings caused her grave damages such as dislocated knees and brain injuries that eventually put her into unconsciousness. Tenorio together with other domestic violence survivors have potently come out to condemn this act more so out of the military families that also seem to experience most of the violence. Tenorio feels that it is important to address this issue and she strongly believes that helping people through education is really vital especially the many victims that we come across almost on daily basis. The platform which is aimed at eradicating and creating awareness amongst military families is put on all military installations. The program which focuses on treatment and interventions as well as trying to swear out both the victim and the abuser has more than 800 clinical social workers and quick quickly responds to emergencies that would require either healthcare and shelter interventions. It is also revealed that some of the causes of violence are stressful situations such as financial difficulties, military trimming, or even handling of outcome of combat and the increase of this violence immensely worries the military leaders and domestic violence workers thus making the program to be focused on everyone in the military. Although war is very violent, it is not supposed to stand to domestic violence and therefore it should change the attitude of the soldiers towards violence by making soldiers even better people. Loss of job can however involve stress such as how to complete mortgage or pay bills and this only requires counseling since violence can never solve this situation. The program that was started by Tenorio is therefore intended

Midterm - Essay ExampleAlthough it is clear that Abraham moved from Canaan, there is no historical evidence that he ended up in Egypt. Consequently, there is no archaeological evidence of Abrahams exodus from Egypt.Efron, Weitzman, & Lehmann (58) report archaeological evidence to support that indeed David killed Goliath. A piece of pottery was find in early 2008 at a site where one of the cities of Israel was located south-west of Jerusalem and evidence from the writings found on the pottery indicates that David killed Goliath. The Assyrian conquering of Israel and Judah can equally be termed as a real historical event according to evidence from a clay prism that is currently displayed at Oriental Institute Museum of Chicago. The prism gives an account of Sennaceribs invasion of Judah and confirms a similar account given in second superpowers 1813-15. On the prism, King Sennacerib accounts how King Hezekiah, fearing his greatness, sent him gold, silver, precious stones, ivory and even women from his palace. This archaeological evidence is proof that indeed the Assyrians attacked Israel and Judah. The main reason why scholars question the divine origins of the parole is the fact that its content does not reflect the events and attitudes of the periods they purport to describe (Efron, Weitzman, & Lehmann 61). Scholars point to the various events described in the bible which do not go in hand with the archaeological evidence been discovered. Scholars stress on the need to support the biblical text with an independent source. The text in Genesis, for instance, has not been supported by archaeological discoveries that indicate that the events in the book could have happened later. Archaeological evidence has further indicated that David and Solomon could have been minor rulers who ruled around Jerusalem rather than the full-page of Israel as it is described in the bible. The early Israel was an oral society. Religious leaders taught through word of mouth.

Should our society continue to enforce compulsory monogamy on this Essay

Should our society continue to enforce supreme monogamy on this segment of involuntary individuals, or does this approach no longer represent an enlightened view of love and relationships - Essay ExampleMonogamy is mostly non a option as the systems of cultural conformity tend to make us believe. This can be evidenced when someone tries to do something out of monogamy and he or she faces numerous forms of resistance. The legal arrangements almost allover the world is pro monogamy. Those who tend to go astray from these institutional arrangements are punished in one itinerary or another. Legal marriage, for example, does not adapt non-monogamy neither does divorce and custody courts. The courts will even punish this both financially and denying custody of children to the party which went astray from monogamy (Wardle 43).In the social setting, a non-monogamy arrangement is considered immoral. This is a result of the heavy social pressure where everyone is expected to be monogamou s. In some cases, a person can be disqualified from public office when they admit that they are non-monogamous. The society has, therefore, put a lot of pressure onto the practice of monogamy such that any other arrangement is considered cheating. The guilt that accompanies non-monogamy arrangements is felt even in those places where non-monogamy is fine (Wardle 49).There is a class of people opposed to compulsory monogamy. Among them are the sex workers. Whether they are male or female, sex workers are considered by our culture and the society at large as impure, and they face dissever of stigma as a consequence (Bax 12). They are, therefore, not viewed as fit for a monogamous relationship. Governments even criminalize any sex worker relationships be it exploitative or not. This can be evidenced by the passage of anti-pimping laws aiming at criminalizing the act of benefiting from proceeds of sex work even when one is not the sex worker (Burston 67).Men who are in gay relationship s often face promiscuity allegations from all corners. The Ancient View of Blacks Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Ancient View of Blacks - Essay ExampleThe Greeks and Romans.in the first European accounts of the physical characteristics of certain Afri dope peoples, frequently used a color-term - Aithiops, Aethiops, Ethiopian- literally a burnt-faced person - as a designation for the blackest and most wooly-haired people known to them. But it is not generally known that Ethiopian carried no firebrand of inferiority (Bowser 1995 pg 3).If the way that dark skinned people were depicted in the artwork and writings of those times is no stigma of inferiority then it would be reasonable to conduct that these people were treated as equals, and dissimilar to the disdain with which some dark-skinned individuals, and their communities are treated in todays modern world. That bondage was a common dress during the Greek and Roman eras is readily accepted as fact by most experts. Evidence that slavery was common and accepted can be institute in writings from many philosophers of that era including Ari stotle. Aristotles doctrine of natural slavery was a refined version of such reputable, practical wisdom on slavery through it we are gaining access to something approaching the standard view of the supposedly rational Greek slave-holder on the nature and justification of slavery. (Cartledge 1993 pg 122).Because Aristotle was justifying the ancient Greeks use of slavery, we can assume that slavery was important enough to them that they felt they had to justify it. In modern terms, or scenarios, when mentioning slavery an immediate thought comes to mind concerning the Black race, credibly because the last time there was prevalent slavery it was due to that race being enslaved. That was not necessarily true in ancient Greek and Rome, peculiarly with the Greeks, because (some believe) that would mean that they were enslaving themselves or their relatives.Bernal says, Plutarch admitted Greeces deep cultural debts to Egypt, he took it as axiomatic, for instance, that Greek religion came from Egypt. (Bernal 2001 pg 3). If, as Plutarch admitted, Greek religion came from Egypt, would that not mean that Egyptians also came and colonised what was to become Greece It would seem likely, and if that held true, and again we refer back to Bernal and his assertion that Egyptians were from the Black race, that would mean that the Greeks were descendants of Negroid descedants. At the very least experts believe that the Egyptians intermixed with the Kushites (who were black). The report of Kushite-Egyptian contacts was in large part the story of Egypts efforts to exploit the human and natural resources of Kush, and of Kushs response to the commercial and imperial ambitions of its northern neighbors (Snowden 1983 pg 21). Snowden states that Pepynakht (a noble from Elephantine) reported that he had been outfit to pacify the countries to the south (Kush) and that he did so. An inscription from Pepynakhts tomb informs us that he had slain many leaders, and that he had returned w ith prisoners.how many.were Negroid is not known, but Negroeswere among captives taken in the southern campaigns of Pepy I and II. Britain and the empire The Great Irish Famine Essay

Britain and the empire The Great Irish Famine - Essay ExampleThis essay will focus on Christine Kinealys findings on the famine, mostly related to the relationship of Britain and Ireland during the years of the famine including relationship of the famine with churches, with monarchy, and the nationalist movement.Ever since the famine occurred in 1845, there have been a number of books and literature works published on it, yet the work of Kinealy has taken the famine literature to another level. Kinealy uses many sources and research materials that were otherwise not used to evaluate the famine. With these sources, she demonstrated another aspect of the famine with the relationship of Ireland and Britain during the famine. She focused on the role of the government and also on the importance of preservation lives through private charity. Another aspect which Kinealy focuses on is the food supply which no one had ever discussed before. She talked about how Ireland produced enough food even after the potato blight. It was her work which gave a new vision to the impact of the famine and the aspects which were given least attention. The book is an evaluation of Kinealys survey A decease Dealing Famine which she conducted in 1997. Her intention towards this book was not to give a general history, but to examine the famine through the number of diametric contexts and through her narrative. On her research of different contexts, there is new material presented on charity, memory, and the religious response. The interpretation of Kinealy is identical to the controversial claim in 1997 that Ireland had in reality not suffered with deficit of food and the famine was artificial.Kinealy carried out a lot of research on the famine and chose to write about her ideology. Her book was exceedingly criticized as it gave a different yet true picture of the Irish famine after about 50 years of misinterpretation. Her view and research really

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Movie Review

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Movie Review ExampleThe aim had mostly viewed in a subconscious mind of Joel as he is struggling to resist in erasing his memories of Clementine. This took place when he was undergoing the procedure of the Lacunar memory loss.Upon reliving in his mind the memories of him and the estranged wife, he suddenly realized that he wanted to keep the memories of her instead. As the doctors and technician of Lacuna were busy on the procedures to him through mind-mapping, he was resisting the inexplicable changes that were happening in his subconscious mind.Human Identity and Memory. The film does set a debate of the ground whether identity and memory are connected to unmatched another. It provided open ended analysis for the viewers of the theoretical issue of identity being embedded in military personnel memory. It appears so in limpidive results of the Lacunar amnesia to the main characters, Joel and Clementine. Clementine had her memories of Joel erased, thus her attitude changed toward her new friendship with Joel, much distinct from the time she still has a memory of him.It can be false in the given case that if a person confounded his memory, his identity about the established personality within that memory will eventually lost as well. However, it will be a chance for the person who lost the memory to recreate new personality as his identity as a person. New identity in personality could alter the forgotten one if the memory got totally lost as well - a complete amnesia. However, it is different in the case of Clementine, as she only had a portion in her memory erased. Thus, her identity about herself has not totally altered or forgotten. Joel close to falls similarly with Clementines case, but his procedure deviated as he opted to retain his memories about her. Although they went to such procedure, their identity is not completely at lost as its only a part of their memories being erased. They retained the memories of their own self previously before they met each other, at least with Clementines case. In recent study, it was discerned that human identity is synonymous to personality. Personality is described by neurobiologists and psychologists as a collection of behaviors, emotions, and thoughts that are not controlled by the I-function (Trinh 2005). Personality has relevance or of import connection with human memory. It was discovered that memory is being controlled and regulated by the I-function of the neocortex (Trinh 2005).In Psychological study, the collection of thoughts and behaviors that make a person distinct from others, which is called personality, is actually restored in a memory. The maturity or development of thought, and self-concept is being reinstated in the memory (Trinh 2005). A mans personality or identity was established and real through the help of memory, or rather within the memory. In direct sense, without a memory, man has no idea of his established identity, or previous personality. The import of the memory towards human identity is also affirmed by neuroscientists of University College London. They stated thatThe brain stores all

Pillowman Review Essay Example for Free

reposeman Review EssayThe team of San- Jacinto central college performed the play The Pillow man originally written by Martin McDonough on 2003 in the Powell Arena Theatre. The play was about the tale of Katurian, a fiction writer who was interrogated by the two detectives Ariel and Tupoloski regarding the unpleasant stories of children written by Katurian. The content of Katurians stories was similar to the murder of the different children in the town, so they were suspected of the case. The play was performed on the black-box theatre, which was modified into the uplift stage. The stage was good decorous to support some specific part of the play like the background family scene that was provided when Katurian was narrating the story. The audiences sitting on raised stages on the three sides were able to relate the Katurians narration with the background scene. The opening moments of this play are superlatively funny, thanks to the interaction between Katurian and his two ca ptors, a Detective named Tupolski (Joe Franco) and a policeman named Ariel (Richard Turner). Tupolski seems to be the epitome of quiet, industrial effectiveness, whereas Ariel (the winged indentured servant in The Tempest?) is very tightly wound, and more than impetuous to jump his prisoner and beat him senseless.Though all the characters were good to perform their assigned roles, I personally appreciate the role of Michal, performed by Aaron Alford, a catechumen student of San Jacinto College. Just as the script says Michal was little slow to get the things, Alford did exactly the same throughout the play. As well, this character has added some comedy flavors in the play like itching ass etc. He made us laugh most of the time. The enceinte factor of the play was good. The crying operate from the background was really natural that attracted the attention of the audiences like me. It made to feel like somebody was really tortured there. There was a special sound effect in the pla y relating to the homicide and torture. Mr. Brian Hamlin did the very good job as a director and fight director. The play was directed so well. All the paradiddle and crew do their best to execute the play. Most of the casting members were professional and graduate students interested in theatre. The two plays that I watched during this semester The Pillowman and KOYAANISQATSI. The opening scene of The Pillowman and KOYAANISQATSI both were really good. Among these two play I like KOYAANISQATSI better because the Hopi Indian chanter played really well. Also, action was well executed on sensation Blood on KOYAANISQATSI rather than interrogating on The Pillowman. Lighting was well executed on KOYAANISQATSI and sound effects on The Pillowman To sum it up, the play was good enough to entertain. I can make a consensus that the script of the play was well written. The characters were giving just the satisfaction to the superior script of the play. It was worth watching.

Academic Achievements EssayTHE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUNDIn e really educatees life, schoolman excellence as well as co-curricular involvement is very essential. The two aspects would help them attain their goal of being part of the comply roll. Balancing these two is one of the problems honor students of today be facing. This process is in hug drugded to know how important co-curricular involvement is and what its personal effects to the students academic achievements are. Since 1985, Colegio San Agustin (CSA)- Bian has been providing its students fibre Catholic education that enriches their knowledge academically. Besides, CSA- Bian has been offering several co- curricular programs like authorized student clubs or organizations wherein each student is required to join, inner(a) and outside school competitions, sports activities and many more. Prospective honor students, as active as they want to be, participate and take part in twain academic and co- curricular programs .CSA- Bian Junior High School Department follows DepEd Order No. 92, s. 2009 for the selection of honor students. The policy states that the 7-3 point scheme (7 points for academic transaction and 3 points for co- curricular activities) shall be used in determining the final honors among non- graduating and graduating students. In Academic category 2013-2014, there were 30 students from grade seven to 3rd class high school who grabbed a spot in the honor roll. Their final ranks were computed based on 70% academics and 30% co- curricular. They, most probably, are every bit excellent in both aspects. Co-curricular refers to activities, programs, and learning experiences that complement, in some way, what students are learning in school. Co-curricular activities are usually a way to separate students from their academics. These activities set about influence on students academic performance but on the other hand, it is questionable whether these activities effect positively or nega tively (Millard, 1930). Different school administrations are interested to find out if there is association in the midst of academic performance and the involvement in co- curricular activities. (Stephens Schaben, 2002). This is where the focal point of the bailiwick takes flummox the effects of co- curricular involvement on the academic achievements of the grade seven to third yr over- all earn ten students. According to the Pickle Jar theory, when you take an empty pickle jar and learn it with rocks, it appears to be full until you fill it with gravel. The smaller granules fill the cracks between the rocks, and you can still fit in some sand, and then water.Another theory named the Distraction-Conflict theory (1978), refers to an analysis of performance gains in groups assuming that when others are present, attention is divided between the other things and the task this attentional conflict increases motivation and so it facilitates performance on simple, well-learned tasks. These theories are germane(predicate) to the research because like the Pickle Jar Theory, the rocks represent the academic achievements while the smaller granules like pebbles and sand depict the co-curricular involvements. On the other hand, the Distraction-Conflict Theory attests that when both academics and co- curricular activities are p resent, a students attention may be divided and therefore cannot focus on his priority which is his academic performance.SS find out 1The Relationship between the Profile and the Effects of Co- curricular Involvement to Academic Achievements as Perceived by Grade Seven to Fourth Year Over- all Top ten Students of CSA- Bian in AY 2013- 2014After consolidating the ideas and thought of the theories and studying theconcepts presented, the researchers came up with Figure 1 to show that the profile gender, final usual average, over-all rank, and frequency of co-curricular involvements (independent variable) has something to do or may alter the perceived effects of co-curricular involvements on academic achievements (dependent variable) of grade seven to third year over- all top ten students of Academic Year 2013-2014.Statement of the ProblemThis study sought to fructify the perceived effects of the co-curricular involvements to the academic achievements of grade seven to third year ove r-all top ten students of Colegio San Agustin- Bian in academic year 2013-2014.
